Fact Sheet
Dual Italian citizenship recognition process at the Italian Consulate
(in the region where the applicant lives)
This alternative constitutes the administrative/extrajudicial route of the process of recognition jure sanguinis and must be carried out exclusively in the Italian Consulate where the applicant has his effective and verifiable residence for at least 6 months. The process takes between 2 years and up to 7 years, depending on the Consulate and country where you reside. In order to start the process and submit the application and documentation, an appointment must be booked exclusively through Prenotami, the portal of the Ministero degli Affari Esteri of Italy. The problem in many countries is that a) you simply cannot get an appointment because there is never availability or; b) when you get an appointment, the appointment can be in up to 4 years! For this alternative, the representation of a lawyer is not necessary and must always be in person.
